Editorial Policy (How We Fact-Check)

Last Updated: August 11, 2026

At White Coat Hunter, we believe that health misinformation is a public health crisis. In an era where viral TikTok videos and deceptive marketing campaigns can spread medical myths in seconds, finding trustworthy, evidence-based information has never been more difficult.

Our mission is simple: We hunt down health myths, decode complex medical science, and deliver the truth.

To maintain the highest level of integrity, we adhere to a strict editorial policy. Here is a transparent look at how we research, write, and fact-check every piece of content on this platform.

1. The “White Coat” Standard of Expertise

Every investigation, fact-check, and educational article published on this site is authored, reviewed, or heavily supervised by Rifan Eka Putra Nasution, MD., M.Sc.

Our editorial lens is uniquely shaped by a dual perspective: frontline clinical practice as a medical doctor and systemic oversight as a regional hospital service manager. This combination ensures that our content is not merely theoretical, but deeply grounded in real-world patient care, human resource management in healthcare, and public health realities. We translate complex clinical data into engaging, accessible narratives without compromising scientific rigor.

2. Our Fact-Checking Methodology

When investigating a viral health claim, a trending diet, or a new supplement, we follow a rigorous, step-by-step scientific method:

  • Step 1: Identifying the Target: We monitor trending health topics across global social media platforms, mainstream news, and submissions from our readers. We prioritize claims that pose a direct risk to public health or consumer wallets.

  • Step 2: The Literature Review: We do not rely on Google searches for our verdicts. We consult primary, peer-reviewed medical literature. Our gold standards include the Cochrane Library, PubMed, The Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), and guidelines from recognized global health authorities (like the WHO or CDC).

  • Step 3: Evaluating the Evidence: We analyze the hierarchy of evidence. A well-designed Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) or meta-analysis will always outweigh a small observational study, an animal test, or an individual anecdote.

  • Step 4: The Verdict: We synthesize the data into a clear, engaging narrative and assign a definitive verdict to the claim: True, False, Misleading, or Lacks Evidence.

3. Strict Independence and Conflict of Interest

Trust is our most valuable currency. White Coat Hunter operates with absolute editorial independence.

  • We do not accept funding, sponsorships, or free products from pharmaceutical companies, supplement manufacturers, or wellness brands in exchange for positive reviews.

  • If an article contains affiliate links (such as for medical textbooks or clinical gear), it will be clearly disclosed at the top of the page. These links never influence our medical verdicts or investigations.

  • Any potential conflict of interest regarding our authors or contributors will be explicitly stated at the beginning of the respective article.

4. The Correction Policy

Science is not a static set of rules; it is an ever-evolving process. As new clinical trials are published, the medical consensus can shift.

If we publish an error, or if new, high-quality evidence emerges that contradicts one of our previous fact-checks, we are committed to updating the article promptly. When a significant correction is made, we will add an “Update” or “Correction” note at the top or bottom of the article, detailing what was changed, why it was changed, and when the change occurred.

5. Submit a Claim for Review

Our investigations are fueled by our community. If you have encountered a suspicious medical claim, a dubious wellness product, or a confusing health trend, we want to hear about it.
